"Reading Road Trip" Book Fair

 art_road_logo.gif Wells Central School will be hosting a "Reading Road Trip" Book Fair in the Library Media Center, May 14-20. Students of all ages are welcome to the Book Fair and parents are welcome during the fair hours. There will be books for all ages and many titles to choose for summer reading. Parents are encouraged to buy a book for their child's classroom. The books you give will become a permanent part of the classroom library. As a token of appreciation, every gift will be recognized with a bookplate identifying your family or child as the donor. Please look for the Classroom Wish List display at the Book Fair. Your generosity can make a classroom more exciting and stimulating to young minds. The book fair will be open Wednesday through Friday, May 14-16, and Monday and Tuesday, May 19 and 20, during school hours. The fair will also be open until 6:30 p.m. before the Elementary Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 20.

Second Grade Poets

Congratulations are in order! Second grader Joanna Luck submitted her cinquain poem, "Rudolph", to the Great Adirondack Young People's Poetry Contest 2008, and it was selected for special merit. Joanna has been invited to read her poem, receive her award, and be honored at a special awards ceremony in Lake Placid at the Lake Placid Center of the Arts on May 4th.

Students 'all business' as they prep for competition

When seeking competent, aggressive, business leadership, people don’t automatically think of the local high school student body. But for Heather Abbott, Kara Aird, Maribeth Hunt, Caitlin Lucas, Josh Page, Aron Pfeffer, and Cory Schoonmaker, high school students at Wells Central School, sharpening their business acumen is considered a fun, after-school activity.

These high school students will put their practical business skills to the test against students from across New York State during the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference on April 7-9 in Ellenville, NY.

Schoonmaker one step closer to national scholarship

Cory SchoonmakerAs a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship program, Wells High School senior Cory Schoonmaker is anxiously awaiting word that he is among the 8,200 students nationwide who will receive a Merit Scholarship. Cory hopes this honor will help him secure a spot in the freshman class at Cornell University – his first choice for college.

Wells students say ‘Happy Birthday’ 100 ways

Students in grades preK - 3 align on the gym floor at Wells Central School as part of a recent Morning Program project to commemorate local resident Mildred Stanyon ColvinWhen Wells native Mildred Stanyon Colvin turns 100 on Feb. 8, her mailbox in Florida will be filled with hand-made birthday greetings from Wells.

Dozens of students in grades preK-3 spent a recent Morning Program at Wells Central School working on the cards with their teachers and Wells Postmaster Liz Forsell, who visits the school a couple times each year.
